In addition to Phil Burns and Jill Shook speaking at our Housing Justice Forum, we'll hear a testimony from Victor Cyrus-Franklin, lead pastor of Holman United Methodist Church in Los Angeles and supervisor of the affordable housing dev

elopment project of Inglewood First UMC, where he previously pastored. Since 2019, he has shepherded the Inglewood congregation through the transformation of its property;

The congregation became clear on a vision for their land and ministry goals, and today they have a development that aligns with their goals and also provides a fair return. The affordable housing developer they chose will adaptively reuse a Sunday school wing/charter school into 60 units of affordable housing, provide the church with a million-dollar music center, and give them five million dollars for a long-term ground lease for the use of their land. The developer will fund, build and manage the sorely needed affordable apartments. They broke ground in February of this year.

Maya Dunne, chair of the Trustees Committee of the Neighborhood Congregational Church of Laguna Beach, will also share how her church has benefited from working with Congregational Land Partners to make affordable housing happen. CLP helped Neighborhood Congregational Church evaluate its options to redevelop its large, well-located property into an affordable housing development and new spiritual center facility. See video and picture below.
